## Since this no/low risk employee group generally makes up the majority of an employer's

employee population, it therefore becomes important for the wellness program to address all

the domains of wellness (physical, emotional, social, spiritual, occupational and

intellectual) and not just physical health. If thriving employees are truly the goal of

programs, programs need to meet employees where they are at and offer solutions to their

Health And Wellness Tips Of The Day even if they are not specifically related to the employee's physical health.

Employers are likely to viewe value of their wellness program from one of two

perspectives. The current predominant view of employer value is an economic one. The other

employer view is related to employee engagement.

Since cost directly impacts the bottom line, employers are always looking for ways to

control costs. Employers are currently desperately seeking solutions to their healthcare

spending costs and have come to view worksite wellness programs as a strategy to accomplish

this. Unfortunately, for the average employer with an average program, saving on healthcare

spending is not very likely for a number of reasons.

But the economic value of a worksite wellness program may extend beyond just healthcare

related costs savings. There is some published research that these programs deliver economic

value through reduced absenteeism, reduced disability related costs, reduced

injuries/rehabilitation costs and reduced presenteeism.

From a non-economic perspective, a worksite wellness program can contribute value through

increased levels of employee engagement and creating a great place to work. It is well

accepted today that healthy, happy, engaged employees are good for customer relations and

the bottom line. Being a great place to work helps the employer to be seen as an employer of

choice in the community.

It is important to both recognize and be able to demonstrate the different ways worksite

wellness programs deliver value to both employers and their employees, alike.
